Mondulkiri is a great place to visit during your holiday in Cambodia.  The Mondulkiri Project is located close to Sen Monorom, Mondulkiri.  Sen Monorom is 370km east of Phnom Penh at an altitude of 800m above sea level.  Travelling to Sen Monorom whilst on holiday in Cambodia is easy now that the road has been paved.  Transport options include bus, minivan, private taxi, shared taxi and car rental.  Click on the following links for information on the Mondulkiri Project:

From Phnom Penh to Mondulkiri

Express Minivans

There are now two companies we can recommend who providing fast and comfortable 12 seat minivans from Phnom Penh to Sen Monorom.  They generally take 5-6 hours to complete the journey.  They have 1-2 short toilet stops along the way.  You can now book your journey there online or get any guesthouse in Cambodia to book this trip for you.

For leaving Mondulkiri it is best to get your guest house in Sen Monorom to book this trip for you so that the minivan company will come and pick you up.  If you book this journey yourself online they might not pick you up.

 

Rithya Mondulkiri Express

Night Bus

Virak Buntham has a night bus that leaves Phnom Penh at 7.30pm and arrives in Sen Monorom at 2-3am.  There are some hotels open at this time and a few places to get food.

Private Car with Driver (taxi)

If you want private travel or need to leave Phnom Penh late in the afternoon to get to Mondulkiri it is possible to use a private car with driver.  The journey should take 5-6 hours.  Email [email protected] to book this.  The taxi is not always available and you should book it as early as possible.  We only book taxis for people who are booked on our Mondulkiri Project tours.

From Siem Reap to Mondulkiri

EXPRESS MINIVAN VIA KOMPONG CHAM

A new service now travels between Siem Reap and Mondulkiri via Kompong Cham.  It is called the Rithya Mondulkiri Express.  Leaves  at 7.45am and arrives in Sen Monorom around 4.00pm.  Their bus stop is located on Road 6, 100 metres on the right past Borey Seang Nam (main Siem Reap bus station).  The trip from town is around 20 minutes and will cost $3-$5 by tuk tuk.  There is a local cafe next door selling breakfast.

PRIVATE CAR WITH DRIVER

If you are in a group and/or want to travel in style it is possible to hire a private car with a driver to travel from Siem Reap to Mondulkiri.

From Sihanoukville to Mondulkiri

To travel from Sihanoukville you will first need to catch a minivan to Phnom Penh and then change to catch another minivan to Sen Monorom.  Please book both of these trips separately.

We recommend you catch an early minivan from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh.  If you use a company that also does the trip from Phnom Penh to Mondulkiri you wont need to change bus stations in Phnom Penh.  Virak Buntham is one such company.

From Kratie to Mondulkiri

LOCAL MINIVANS

Several shared vans leave daily from Kratie to Sen Monorom around 8.00AM.  These are older blue minivans rather than the newer Ford Express minivans.   Some days there is a noon bus at 12. The trip usually takes 3.5 – 4 hours. Tickets are best booked through your Kratie guesthouse.

 

From Ratanakiri to Mondulkiri 

LOCAL MINIVANS

There are several shared vans leaving daily from Banlung to Sen Monorom around 8am. These are older blue minivans rather than the newer Ford Express minivans.  The trip usually takes 3.5 – 4 hours.  Tickets are best booked through your Banlung guesthouse.

 

From Kampot or Kep to Mondulkiri

To travel from Kampot or Kep you will need to catch a minivan to Phnom Penh.  In Phnom Penh you will need to change to catch another minivan to Sen Monorom.  Please book both of these trips separately.

From Mondulkiri to Siem Reap

Now there is a direct minivan from Sen Monorom to Siem Reap.  Leaves every morning at 7.45am.  Stops in Kampong Cham from 12pm – 12.30pm for lunch stop.  Arrives in Siem Reap at 4.30pm.  Cost is $17.  Ask your guesthouse in Sen Monorom to book ‘Rithya Express’ minivan company for you.

From Mondulkiri to Ho Chi Minh City 

Catch the minivan to Snoul (on the way to Phnom Penh). Make sure the minivan driver knows you are getting out at Snoul.  From Snoul you take a motorbike to the border. This takes 15 minutes and costs around $5. When you cross the border there are motorbike taxis about 50 metres on your left.  You have to take this motorbike (20 kilometres) to Loc Ninh bus station.  Don’t let them drop you off before you make it to the bus station.   Find the local bus with Saigon written in the window.  This local bus takes 3 hours to Ho Chi Minh City (approx. $7).  You will also find taxis here.  Make sure you have a valid Vietnamese visa and buy some Vietnamese currency (Dong) in advance.
