Mondulkiri is a province located in the eastern part of Cambodia. Mondulkiri weather is characterized by a tropical climate that is hot and humid throughout the year. The provincial capital is located at an altitude of 800m above sea level making it a great place to escape the hotter weather in the rest of the country. You rarely need an air conditioner in your accommodation, with fans being enough to keep cool.
Mondulkiri weather experiences two distinct seasons: a rainy season that lasts from May to October, and a dry season that runs from November to April.
During the rainy season, Mondulkiri experiences heavy rainstorms and thunderstorms, particularly in the months of July, August and September. It rarely rains all day so it is still a good time to visit. The rivers are full of water and Mondulkiri’s many waterfalls look magnificent. With its mountainous terrain, it is rare for Mondulkiri to flood unlike most other areas in Cambodia. The average temperature during this season is around 25-30 degrees celsius, but the high humidity can make it feel hotter.
In contrast, the dry season in Mondulkiri is characterised by lower humidity levels and less rainfall. The average temperature during this season is around 22-28 degrees celsius, making it a more. comfortable time to visit for those sensitive to heat. However, visitors should be prepared for cool nights, as temperatures can drop to around10 degrees celsius in some areas.
One of the best times to visit Mondulkiri is during the cooler months of December and January, when the weather is generally dry and temperatures are more pleasant.
Any time is a good time to visit the Mondulkiri Project‘s elephant sanctuary and protected forest. Our elephants love the wet season, spending lots of time playing in the mud. Our one and two day tours are a must do when visiting Cambodia.
