After you have visited Banlung and the magical Boeng Yeak Lom crater lake it might be time for you to travel south from Ratanakiri to Mondulkiri.  Once there you should visit the Mondulkiri Project’s elephant sanctuary and go trekking it the jungle for an unforgettable experience.  Bookings required.

The road from Ratanakiri to Mondulkiri has being upgraded. It is now possible to travel directly from Banlung in Ratanakiri to Sen Monorom in Mondulkiri in 4 hours.  Half way between these two towns is Koh Neak.  This rest stop has some khmer restaurants and a few guesthouse option.  It also has a new branch of Acleda Bank (with no ATM).

Your guesthouse in Banlung can organise a VIP van where you will get the comfort of your own seat.  The trip distance is 198km and you should have one food stop along the way

There are also several shared vans driving daily from Banlung to Sen Monorom and back. The local shared vans can be a crowded.   Your guesthouse in Banlung can also organise a VIP van where you will get the comfort of your own seat.

The Mondulkiri Project’s one day elephant tour is a day visit to their elephant sanctuary to feed and walk with their rescued elephants.  In the afternoon you will get the opportunity to swim at their waterfall and wash elephants there.  Lunch is provided at their lodge in the jungle.  Tour price is $50usd.

The Mondulkiri Project’s two day elephant tour is their most popular tour.  One day is a visit to their elephant sanctuary to spend time with their elephants as mentioned above.  Next it is time to try some hill tribe food for dinner, cooked  in a piece of bamboo over an open fire.  Rice wine for dessert and then sleeping in comfortable hammocks in their Jungle Lodge.  Day two is an 18km jungle trek with an expert hill tribe guide to visit waterfalls and a cave.  Four meals and accommodation is included in the tour price of $80usd
