Getting to Mondulkiri
Mondulkiri is a great place to visit during your holiday in Cambodia. The Mondulkiri Project is located close to Sen Monorom, Mondulkiri. Sen Monorom is 370km east of Phnom Penh at an altitude of 800m above sea level.
Travelling to Sen Monorom whilst on holiday in Cambodia is easy now that the road has been paved. The transport options are express minivans, night buses and private taxis.

EXPRESS MINIVAN
There are now two companies we can recommend who providing fast and comfortable 12 seat minivans from Phnom Penh to Sen Monorom. Kim Seng and Rithya Mondulkiri Express. They generally take 6 hours to complete the journey. They have 1-2 short toilet stops along the way. You can now book your journey there online.

NIGHT BUS
Virak Buntham has night buses that leaves Phnom Penh at 7.45pm and 11.00pm and arrives in Sen Monorom at 3.45am and 6.00am. There are tuk tuks waiting at Sen Monorom to take you to your guesthouse. If you are a solo traveller you might want to book two beds because the beds are narrow.

PRIVATE CAR WITH DRIVER
If you want private travel or need to leave Phnom Penh late in the afternoon to get to Mondulkiri it is possible to use a private car with driver. The journey should take 6 hours. Please click on this link to book.

EXPRESS MINIVAN VIA KOMPONG CHAM
A new service now travels between Siem Reap and Mondulkiri via Kompong Cham. It is called the Rithya Mondulkiri Express. Leaves at 7.45am and arrives in Sen Monorom around 4.00pm. Their bus stop is located at Borey Seang Nam (main Siem Reap bus station). The trip from town is around 20 minutes and will cost $3-$5 by tuk tuk.

EXPRESS MINIVAN
To travel from Sihanoukville you will first need to catch a minivan to Phnom Penh and then change to catch another minivan to Sen Monorom. Please book both of these trips separately.
We recommend you catch an early minivan from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh. If you use a company that also does the trip from Phnom Penh to Mondulkiri you wont need to change bus stations in Phnom Penh. Virak Buntham is one such company.

LOCAL MINIVANS
Several shared vans leave daily from Kratie to Sen Monorom around 8.00AM. These are older blue minivans rather than the newer Ford Express minivans. Some days there is a noon bus at 12. The trip usually takes 3.5 – 4 hours. Tickets are best booked through your Kratie guesthouse.
LOCAL MINIVANS
There are several shared vans leaving daily from Banlung to Sen Monorom around 8am. These are older blue minivans rather than the newer Ford Express minivans. The trip usually takes 3.5 – 4 hours. Tickets are best booked through your Banlung guesthouse.
EXPRESS MINIVAN
To travel from Kampot or Kep you will need to catch a minivan to Phnom Penh. In Phnom Penh you will need to change to catch another minivan to Sen Monorom. Please book both of these trips separately.

It is not easy to travel from 4000 islands in Laos to Mondulkiri in one day. Mr T, the owner of Riverside Guesthouse in Stung Treng has helped some of our guests. It is best to contact him whilst you are on the islands and he might be able to arrange minivans 4000 islands > Laos/Cambodia border > Stung Treng >Ratanakiri > Sen Monorom/Mondulkiri. From Mondulkiri to Phnom Penh you can catch an express minivan, night bus or private car.
There is a night buses from Mondulkiri to Phnom Penh at 10.30pm if you want to travel to Phnom Penh on the day your tour finishes. There are no night buses from Mondulkiri to Siem Reap or the neighbouring provinces.
If you book our one-day tour + overnight stay in the Jungle Lodge please book the 9.30am Kim Seng minivan or a later minivan to Phnom Penh. When you pay for your tour tell our staff what time you need to be back in town.

Now there is a direct minivan from Sen Monorom to Siem Reap. Leaves every morning at 7.45am. Stops in Kampong Cham from 12pm – 12.30pm for lunch stop. Arrives in Siem Reap at 4.30pm. Cost is $22. Ask your guesthouse in Sen Monorom to book ‘Rithya Express’ minivan company for you.
To travel from Mondulkiri to Laos catch the Virak Buntham express minivan that travels to Siem Reap via Banlung and Stung Treng. Tell the driver you want to get out at Stung Treng. Once in Stung Treng ask for the minivan travelling north into Laos.
To travel from Mondulkiri to Ho Chi Minh City ask your Sen Monorom guesthouse to book you a minivan to the border near Snoul. When you cross the border there are motorbike taxis about 50 metres on your left. You have to take this motorbike (20 kilometres) to Loc Ninh bus station. Don’t let them drop you off before you make it to the bus station. Find the local bus with Saigon written in the window. This local bus takes 3 hours to Ho Chi Minh City (approx. $7). You will also find taxis here. Make sure you have a valid Vietnamese visa and buy some Vietnamese currency (Dong) in advance.
