* * June to September is rainy season so the walking track can be wet and slippery which makes the trek more difficult **
Day One — Meet the Elephants
After an 8:30am pick-up in Sen Monorom, you drive to the sanctuary entrance with views across the protected forest valley that the Mondulkiri Project has helped preserve from logging since 2014.
At the Jungle Lodge you’ll meet your Bunong guide and hear the stories of Happy, Comvine and Princess — three rescued elephants who now live freely in this valley. The day is spent walking with the elephants through the forest, feeding them and observing them alongside their mahouts.
Evening is at the Jungle Lodge — your Bunong guide cooks a traditional meal over a campfire, there’s rice wine if you want it, and you sleep in comfortable hammocks with mosquito nets and blankets.
Day Two — Full Day Jungle Trek
Pancakes for breakfast, then your Bunong guide leads you on an 17km trek through the forest. You’ll visit Leng Ret waterfall and cave, then the impressive 50m Leng Khin Waterfall, before stopping for lunch and a swim at Leng Ong Waterfall.
The trek also passes through community forest beyond our sanctuary boundary, where you’ll see firsthand the logging pressures that make protected sanctuaries like ours so important for Mondulkiri’s future.
The afternoon takes you through working Bunong farms — cassava, chilli, lemongrass, wild rice, pineapple and cashew — before climbing out to arrive at Putang Village, home to your guides. Pick-up from the village back to Sen Monorom.
